Holiday & leave planning

Long weekends & best days to take off

Turn public holidays into longer breaks. Choose a country and year to see natural long weekends, one-day bridge opportunities and efficient leave windows built around the local holiday calendar.

Why this is different from a holiday list

A holiday calendar tells you which dates are off. A leave planner answers the next question: which working days should I take off to create the longest continuous break? These pages combine the country weekend pattern with available public-holiday dates and rank practical opportunities.

That makes them useful for annual-leave planning, travel booking and staffing decisions rather than just looking up one date.

Need a different country?

The dedicated pages below cover the largest English-search markets in this first release. The general bridge day calculator supports all 50 countries in the GlobalTimeGuide dataset.

For legally important dates, payroll or employment entitlements, verify the applicable national and regional rules.

Long-weekend planners by country

2027 pages are published early so they can be indexed before year-end planning demand rises. Current-year 2026 pages remain available for the rest of the year.

🇬🇧 United Kingdom

Bank-holiday dates are not identical across England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The holiday feed can include subdivision information where the source provides it, so always check the region that applies to you.

🇺🇸 United States

Federal holidays are the national baseline in the United States, while states, schools, employers and markets can follow different closure calendars. Treat the results as a planning aid rather than a payroll or legal calendar.

🇦🇺 Australia

Australian public holidays can vary by state and territory. National dates are useful for broad planning, but local calendars may add or move holidays depending on the jurisdiction.

🇨🇦 Canada

Canadian statutory holidays vary by province and territory, and not every employer follows the same set of days. The national feed is best used as a starting point for leave planning.

🇩🇪 Germany

Germany has nationwide holidays plus holidays that apply only in particular federal states (Bundesländer). Regional dates can create extra long-weekend opportunities that are not available nationwide.

🇫🇷 France

Most French public holidays are national, while some regions and overseas territories can follow additional rules. Bridge-day planning is commonly relevant when a holiday falls on Tuesday or Thursday.

🇪🇸 Spain

Spain combines national holidays with autonomous-community and local holidays. Regional calendars matter especially for long weekends because a local holiday can turn an ordinary week into a strong leave opportunity.

🇳🇱 Netherlands

Dutch public holidays are useful planning anchors, but a public holiday does not automatically mean every employee is entitled to a paid day off. Collective labour agreements and employer policies can differ.

🇯🇵 Japan

Japan’s national-holiday calendar can include substitute holidays and holidays created by the relationship between adjacent national holidays. Those rules can produce valuable multi-day breaks.

🇮🇳 India

India has central holidays as well as substantial state, bank and employer variation. National dates alone do not represent every local working calendar.

🇸🇬 Singapore

Singapore’s national public holidays are especially useful for long-weekend planning when an observed holiday joins the Saturday–Sunday weekend. Some dates depend on lunar or religious calendars and can be updated officially.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bridge day?

A bridge day is a normal working day taken as leave to connect a public holiday with a weekend or another non-working period.

How are the best leave days selected?

The planner looks for breaks anchored by weekends or public holidays and highlights windows that require only one to four working days of leave.

Are regional holidays included?

They are shown only when the underlying source provides the relevant regional information. Local holidays can create extra opportunities that a national page cannot fully capture.
